I am advertizing a laptop for sale on the nets, a man said he wants to buy it via paypal, could he try to scam?
who in there right mind sends a paypal payment to a stranger? without seeing the goods first?
Do you think it could be a scam, like a fake paypal payment or something?
People purchase items all the time using paypal without having seen the goods – i.e. EBay.
It’s up to you though how you want to accept payment. You can tell him you don’t use PayPal and only accept personal check (and he has to allow time for it to clear, of course), money order or cashier’s check.
You as the merchant, however, should be wary of PayPal because he can always do a “chargeback dispute” for the transaction once he’s received the laptop. That means he could tell the credit card company he never authorized that payment or received the goods. Unless you have proof that he a)authorized it (usually an imprint of the card with a photocopy of the i.d. is required as proof) and/or b) he received the product he purchased – the credit card company can always retract the funds from your account and you get SCREWED having lost the revenue and the product. BE CAREFUL! This happens all the time to small businesses…
