My laptop cannot connect to the internet on the floor?

I bought a Pavilion dv4-2145dx laptop about a week ago and i noticed when im on the second floor of my house i cant connect to the internet even though it shows that i have an excellent connection. My router is located in my basement and my sisters laptop internet works perfectly fine on the second floor. I have no idea what to do can you guys help me out?

Maybe buy a new adapter for you laptop?
