OBD cables for laptop?

Hey everyone, I just recently got a laptop and have been searching like a drug dog for OBD/2 cables and software that work. I downloaded Proscan 5.9, and it looks promising. However I still need the OBD2 cable. I’ve seen some on ebay for ~20 bucks and plug in via usb, but are they any good? I dont mind spending a few dollars on something as long as it works. I want to be able to scan domestic, asian and european OBD2s. Also, does anyone know a good scan plug for an E30 BMW(1988)? Thanks!

Get the OBDLink SX from scantool.net. It’s $75 and includes software that handles all data and trouble codes. Those cheap eBay scanners have 5 year old software, and the hardware isn’t upgradeable. You’re probably looking at $40 -50 bucks for comparable software (plus the $20 eBay adapter), so it’s a solid buy from a good company (vs. chinese ebay knockoffs). OBDLink does all the domestic, asian, and european protocols, as long as the vehicle talks OBD-II (1996 and later for U.S. vehicles). An ’88 BMW, I can’t help you out with though icon smile laptop obd2
