Can I add a high-gain antenna to my router?
I live about 1/8 of a mile from my job (roughly about 4 minutes walking) and I wanna install an outdoor Wi-Fi antenna for my router to extend the range and access my network from work. My question is, If i install the high-gain antenna to my router (Linksys WRT54G) and it does reach all the way to my workplace, do I need another high-gain antenna on the receiving end? In other words, can I still use the built-in Wi-Fi in a laptop, or say my iPod Touch to connect to my router at home with the installed high-gain antenna even though these two items only transmit for short ranges?
Any help is appreciated!!

To go 4 miles your going to need to invest in a serious antenna and this one will not come close to what you need.
You need to consider any object between you and your work, trees buildings cars and each and every device that emits anything that will interfere with your transmission. You will need to put something on your roof at the very least and install a line of side antenna and point it directly at your office and you’ll be able to connect. Be prepared to spend about 300 for this antenna though.
Why not create a VPN to your home network? then use your work connection to access your network?
